INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Colts lost at home to the Tennessee Titans, who were winless coming into the game, on Sunday. The Colts’ defense allowed just 102 passing yards, but committed three offensive turnovers, had a punt blocked, and gave up a 58-yard punt return.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was 22-of-42 passing for 269 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Jones has now thrown six interceptions and lost three fumbles through the first six games.
After the Colts’ 26-20 loss to Tennessee, Jones described his frustration with his own play through the first six weeks.
“I don’t think it’s been consistent enough,” Jones said. “I think certainly today wasn’t consistent enough. I thought we did some good things offensively, moved the ball well and then some bad stuff. Not consistent enough.”
Jones’ first interception of the game unfolded during the Colts’ first offensive drive of the game. As Indianapolis entered the red zone, Jones rolled to his right and was picked off by Tennessee cornerback Amani Hooker after Jones’ pass was deflected. In the third, Jones threw his second pick on the Titans’ 24-yard line after looking to find tight end Will Mallory six yards out from the end zone.
Jones expanded on what he needs to improve as the Colts move on to play Minnesota next Sunday.
“I think taking care of the ball, for one, I think is the obvious one,” Jones said. “I’ve got to do a better job with that to give us a chance to win. I think overall executing better, I think it starts with taking care of the ball.”
Head coach Shane Steichen added his aggravation following the Colts’ second consecutive loss. Steichen did note that despite Daniel Jone’s rough showing, he will remain the team’s starting quarterback.
“Extremely disappointing,” Steichen said. “We got a lot to fix and we have to fix it in a hurry. Turnovers continue to be an issue; we can handle that better. We can’t have punts blocked. We can’t give up a kick return. We got a lot to clean up, and we have to fix it in a hurry.”
Jones has now committed nine turnovers and has thrown four touchdown passes this season.
The Colts (2-4) will travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings (5-0) next Sunday, October 25.
